Cardinal Ernest Simoni's Florence apartment burglarized

Thieves broke into the Florence apartment of 97-year-old Cardinal Ernest Simoni, located in Piazza Duomo, stealing an estimated 30,000 euros in cash, gold, and jewelry. The perpetrators reportedly used chisels to break through a wall to gain entry.

The theft occurred while the Cardinal was in London for a meeting with King Charles. His nephew and wife discovered the ransacked home upon returning to the residence in the evening. In addition to valuables, the thieves took the Cardinal's residence permit and various family mementos.

Local Carabinieri and scientific investigation units have launched an inquiry and are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the surrounding area to identify the suspects.
