Cardinal Parolin calls for common approach to migration crisis

Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin has called for a common approach to the complex issue of migration, specifically addressing the tensions between Italy and Spain regarding the crisis in Ceuta. Speaking in Aci Castello, Italy, Parolin emphasized the need for cooperation to address the situation humanely and overcome political differences.

During his visit, which coincided with the ninth centenary of the translation of the relics of Saint Agatha, Parolin also addressed global conflicts. He reiterated the Church’s appeal for peace in the Middle East and noted ongoing efforts to mediate the war in Ukraine. He mentioned that Monsignor Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States, is scheduled to visit Moscow in hopes of fostering paths toward a ceasefire and negotiations.

The visit to Sicily included religious commemorations and meetings with local authorities, including the Mayor of Catania, Enrico Trantino, to honor the historical and religious ties between the city and its patron saint.
