Cardinal Pizzaballa receives honorary doctorate in Pisa

The Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa has awarded an honorary doctorate in ‘Human Rights, Global Politics and International Studies’ to Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem.

The ceremony was attended by Italy’s Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, and other institutional representatives. The academic title recognizes the Patriarch’s commitment to international law, religious freedom, and human rights in crisis zones.

During his keynote lecture, titled ‘The Humanity of the Other: Dignity and Rights in the Time of War’, Cardinal Pizzaballa warned against seeking security through isolation or the denial of others' rights. He stated that the experience in the Holy Land demonstrates that denying a future to others eventually impoverishes one's own future.
