Cardinal Pizzaballa visits Spoleto prison to collect Gaza charity funds

Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, visited the Spoleto prison in Italy to receive donations intended for children in Gaza. The funds were raised through the sale of artisanal goods crafted by inmates, which were previously exhibited at the 2025 Montefalco Christmas market.

During the visit, the Cardinal met with prison management, educational staff, and the penitentiary police. He emphasized the importance of humanity and listening, noting that despite the current period of intense pain and resentment in the Holy Land, it is essential to maintain a flame of trust. He encouraged the inmates to preserve a desire for life and the possibility of redemption, even in difficult circumstances.

In addition to the prison visit, the Cardinal celebrated Mass at the Casa San Giuseppe of the Sisters of the Holy Family and visited the Spoleto Cathedral accompanied by Archbishop Renato Boccardo.
