Cardinal Tagle’s father dies at age 96
Manuel Tagle Sr., the 96-year-old father of Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, passed away on Sunday. The Cardinal, who currently serves as the pro-prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Evangelization and is the former archbishop of Manila, was in Rome at the time of his father's death.
Pope Leo XIV expressed his condolences to the Cardinal and his family, stating he was “deeply saddened” by the loss and offering an apostolic blessing as a “pledge of consolation and peace.”
Manuel Sr., known as “Tatay Maning,” was married to Milagros Gokim for 70 years. The couple raised their two sons, Luis Antonio and Manuel Jr., in Imus, Cavite. The Diocese of Imus announced that the wake will be held at Casas Hall in the Bishop’s House in Imus through September 9, with a funeral Mass scheduled for September 10 at Imus Cathedral.
In a request from the family, donations in lieu of flowers are being directed toward victims of flash floods in Nepal.
