Cardinal Zuppi honors martyrs and Blessed Rosario Livatino
Cardinal Matteo Zuppi has addressed the upcoming beatifications of several religious figures in Italy, emphasizing themes of peace, justice, and service.
In a speech at the Cassazione, Zuppi honored the memory of Blessed Rosario Livatino, suggesting he could serve as a patron for magistrates. He described Livatino’s life as being guided by divine protection and the duty to render justice through love.
Additionally, Zuppi spoke regarding the beatification of three priests—Martino Capelli, Elia Comini, and Ubaldo Marchioni—at the Basilica of San Petronio. These men were victims of the Marzabotto massacre during World War II, having chosen to remain with their communities rather than seek safety during the Nazi killings. Zuppi stated that their martyrdom serves as a light for the Church, calling for peace, fraternity, and the disarmament of hearts through dialogue.
