Cardiologist arrested in investigation of wife's death in Campo Grande
A 78-year-old cardiologist has been placed under preventive detention by order of Judge Aluízio Pereira dos Santos of the 2nd Jury Court of Campo Grande. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into the death of his wife, 51-year-old physiotherapist Fabíola Marcotti.
Ms. Marcotti was found dead on May 18 in a residence in the Chácara dos Poderes rural area of Campo Grande, with a gunshot wound to the head. The investigation is working to determine whether the death was a suicide or a homicide. This marks the second time the physician has been detained during the inquiry; he was previously taken to the Specialized Police Station for Women's Assistance (Deam) regarding firearm possession.
The cardiologist told police that he heard a gunshot and subsequently found his wife on the floor of their bedroom. His defense attorney has described the preventive detention as “unwarranted,” arguing that the investigation is incomplete and the suspect has not yet had the opportunity to present evidence or contest the findings in court.
