Cardiologist Aurelio Rojas advises one‑hour wait before first coffee

Cardiologist Aurelio Rojas explains that the body experiences a natural cortisol peak 30‑60 minutes after waking, which boosts energy and regulates blood pressure. He warns that drinking coffee immediately overlaps with this hormone surge, reducing its stimulant effect and potentially increasing caffeine tolerance, nervousness, or anxiety. Rojas recommends waiting about an hour before the first coffee to “improve its effects, reduce overstimulation of the nervous system, protect the circadian rhythm and keep a healthier hormonal response.”

Other health experts note that hot tea may stimulate morning intestinal transit even more effectively than coffee. The warmth and hydration of tea help activate the digestive system after the overnight fast, offering a gentler, sustained bowel movement without the possible acidity or discomfort some experience with coffee. Adequate hydration, fiber intake, regular exercise and stable sleep patterns remain key factors for regular bowel movements.
