Cardiologist explains effective methods for managing hypertension
Dr. Max Fritschka, a cardiologist at the Charité German Heart Center, advises that while natural remedies like garlic, lemon, and mint are often cited for managing hypertension, they are not immediate solutions for sudden blood pressure spikes.
Research indicates that garlic, which contains allicin, can help dilate blood vessels and improve circulation, potentially reducing systolic pressure by an average of 8 mmHg and diastolic pressure by 7 mmHg. However, these benefits require weeks of consistent use rather than providing instant relief. Similarly, vitamin C supplementation from sources like lemon may assist in lowering pressure, but evidence is less robust.
Medical professionals warn that untreated hypertension can lead to severe consequences, including heart attack, stroke, and heart failure. The European Society of Hypertension recommends maintaining blood pressure levels below 130/80 mmHg in many patients. Experts emphasize that home remedies should never replace professional medical treatment and prescribed medications.
