Cardiologist warns against using natural remedies to treat clogged arteries
Associate Professor Çağlar Özmen, a cardiology expert at Çukurova University Faculty of Medicine, has addressed common misconceptions regarding natural remedies for heart health. He clarified that foods such as vinegar, garlic extract, lemon water, and black cumin do not possess the ability to open clogged arteries, lower high cholesterol, or regulate blood sugar and blood pressure as is commonly believed.
While these items can be part of a balanced diet or used as nutritional supplements, Dr. Özmen emphasized that they cannot replace medications prescribed by a doctor. He specifically warned that excessive consumption of honey and molasses can have adverse effects, particularly for diabetic or overweight individuals, due to their high sugar content. Furthermore, he noted that while garlic extract is studied in the United States as a dietary supplement, it should not be viewed as a primary treatment for cardiovascular conditions.
