Cardiologist warns of heart risks from chronic stress and lack of recovery

Cardiologist and internist Prof. Dr. Uwe Nixdorff explains that stress itself is not inherently harmful, but becomes a significant cardiovascular risk when it becomes a permanent state without adequate recovery periods.

In Germany, approximately two-thirds of the population report feeling stressed. Nixdorff distinguishes between eustress and distress, noting that medical concern arises when exhaustion becomes overwhelming, leading to a loss of emotional and cognitive resources. Chronic stress is linked to physical issues such as abdominal fat, sleep disturbances, and general exhaustion.

To combat these effects, the VARESE concept has been developed, which integrates six key areas: behavior, mindfulness, nutrition, sport, and dietary supplements.
