Cardiologist warns of risks from untreated heart rhythm disorders

Prof. Dr. Enis Oğuz, a cardiology specialist, has warned that heart rhythm disorders, often dismissed as simple palpitations, can lead to severe health complications if left untreated. Symptoms such as recurring palpitations, shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, or fainting require immediate medical evaluation.

One common condition, atrial fibrillation, causes irregular electrical activity in the heart's atria. This can increase the risk of blood clots, heart failure, and stroke. Treatment plans are personalized based on a patient's age, existing medical conditions, and heart function.

Medical interventions may include medication, pacemakers, or invasive procedures such as electrophysiological examination and catheter ablation. Ablation aims to control the electrical foci causing the arrhythmia to restore a normal heart rhythm.
