Cardiologists discuss the impact of egg consumption on blood pressure

Medical experts suggest that moderate egg consumption may be safe for individuals with high blood pressure when part of a balanced diet, such as the DASH or Mediterranean diet. Dr. Deborah W. Sundlof of Lehigh Valley Health Network notes that the impact of eggs on blood pressure can be neutral or even slightly favorable, provided they are not consumed in excessive amounts, such as two or three at a single breakfast.

While egg yolks contain approximately 186 mg of cholesterol, nutritionists emphasize that dietary cholesterol does not automatically lead to significant increases in blood cholesterol levels. Experts suggest that saturated fats, rather than dietary cholesterol, have a much greater impact on LDL cholesterol levels. Therefore, the health impact of eggs often depends more on accompanying foods, such as bacon or sausage, than the eggs themselves. For heart health, it is recommended to pair eggs with fiber-rich foods like whole-grain toast or nuts.
