Cardiovascular care advances in Northeastern Brazil hospitals
Medical facilities in Northeastern Brazil are reporting advancements in cardiovascular care through increased procedure volumes and the adoption of high-precision technologies.
Hospital Marques Basto (HMB) in Parnaíba, Piauí, recorded a record number of cardiac surgeries and angioplasties during the first half of 2026. The hospital’s Cardiology Center has become a regional reference, serving patients from Piauí, Ceará, and Maranhão by providing high-complexity procedures closer to their home regions.
In Sobral, Ceará, the Hospital do Coração (part of the Complexo Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Sobral) has implemented advanced technologies for treating complex coronary artery disease. Using percutaneous methods via catheters, medical teams utilized pharmacological balloons (AGENT™) and Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) to treat arterial obstructions. These technologies allow for precise imaging of the artery interior and targeted drug delivery, reducing the need for open-heart surgery in specific cases.
