Cardiovascular disease rising among younger populations in Romania
Medical professionals are reporting an increase in cardiovascular disease incidence in Romania, with a concerning rise in diagnoses among individuals under the age of 45. Due to environmental factors and stress, heart disease is appearing much earlier in younger generations than in previous ones.
Dr. Claudia Teodorescu, a primary cardiologist at Hong Long Clinic, recommends that individuals begin early screening around age 30. Recommended preventative measures include an electrocardiogram (EKG) and blood tests to monitor specific markers such as homocysteine, inflammatory markers, and C-reactive protein, which can indicate a predisposition to cardiovascular issues.
Myocardial infarction, or heart attack, occurs when blood flow to the heart muscle is blocked, often due to atherosclerosis. Risk factors include hypertension, diabetes, smoking, and chronic stress. Early symptoms can be subtle, particularly in women, the elderly, and diabetics, and are often misidentified as indigestion, fatigue, or anxiety.
