Cardiovascular diseases cause 40% of deaths in Turkey
Cardiovascular diseases account for approximately 40 percent of deaths in Turkey, according to cardiovascular surgery specialist Op. Dr. Alkan Arpaçay. The rise in these conditions is attributed to increasing sedentary lifestyles, obesity, and stress.
Dr. Arpaçay emphasizes that nutrition plays a critical role in heart health, advising against the consumption of packaged and processed foods. He notes that modern conveniences, such as frequent use of elevators, cars, and online delivery services, contribute to physical inactivity.
To mitigate risks, the specialist recommends incorporating resistance training and weight exercises into daily routines to combat muscle loss, which typically begins after age 35. He highlights that focusing solely on weight is insufficient, suggesting that monitoring waist circumference and abdominal fat is more vital for assessing health risks.
