Cardiovascular health: Experts warn of asymptomatic risks and lifestyle factors
Medical experts highlight that many cardiovascular diseases develop without obvious symptoms, meaning individuals may feel healthy while serious conditions progress. Cardiologist Professor Sigita Glaveckaitė notes that conditions such as atherosclerosis, hypertension, and dyslipidemia often remain undetected until they cause significant damage, such as a myocardial infarction or stroke.
Key risk factors and lifestyle habits also play a critical role in blood pressure regulation. Dr. Steven Fentonas identifies excessive sodium intake, a sedentary lifestyle, and stress as primary contributors to high blood pressure. High sodium levels, often found in processed foods and restaurant meals, cause the body to retain water, increasing blood volume and pressure on vessel walls.
To manage blood pressure, experts recommend reducing sodium intake—ideally toward 1500 mg per day—while increasing potassium consumption. Additionally, minimizing prolonged sitting and maintaining physical activity are essential for healthy circulation.
