Cardiovascular health warnings for aging men and stroke prevention
Medical experts are warning that certain symptoms often dismissed as natural signs of aging in men may actually indicate underlying cardiovascular issues. Dr. May Bakir, founder of InfiniteHeart Health, notes that coronary artery disease does not always present with typical chest pain. Instead, symptoms such as shortness of breath during physical activity or unusual, prolonged fatigue can be equivalent to angina.
Additionally, managing blood pressure is critical for preventing strokes, particularly for individuals over the age of 50 as blood vessels lose elasticity. According to Healthline, blood pressure readings of 140/90 mmHg or higher are considered high and increase the risk of both ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. Medical professionals advise individuals over 50 to consult a doctor if blood pressure consistently reaches 130/80 mmHg, and to seek emergency care immediately if readings exceed 180/120 mmHg accompanied by chest pain, shortness of breath, or sudden numbness.
