In Germany, rising costs for nursing homes and home care are placing significant financial pressure on retirees. When pensions and long-term care insurance do not cover all expenses, social welfare offices may provide assistance under SGB XII. This support is assessed individually based on income, assets, and the financial situation of partners. Notably, adult children are generally only held financially responsible if their annual income exceeds 100,000 euros.

For those with a care level of 2, specific benefits are available. This includes monthly care allowances (Pflegegeld) of 347 euros for self-organized care, or outpatient care services (Pflegesachleistungen) worth up to 796 euros per month.
