Career Advancement Strategies Through Upskilling and Reskilling
As professional roles evolve, workers face a choice between upskilling and reskilling to maintain career growth. Upskilling involves deepening expertise within a current career path, such as an accountant learning advanced financial modeling, to facilitate promotions and increased value in an existing field.
Reskilling involves learning a substantially different set of skills to transition into a new role or industry, such as an administrative assistant training to become a project coordinator. According to the World Economic Forum’s Future of Jobs Report, if the global workforce consisted of 100 people, 59 would require training by 2030. Of those, 29 could be upskilled in current roles, while 19 could be trained for redeployment into different roles within their organizations.
Successful career changes require identifying underlying professional dissatisfaction, researching new industries, analyzing transferable skills like communication or software proficiency, and pursuing necessary education.
