Career reconversion trends drive shift toward skills-based recruitment

Professional mobility and career reconversion are becoming increasingly prevalent. According to Centre Inffo data for 2025, 18% of the workforce is preparing for a career change, while 47% are either engaged in or interested in reconversion. Additionally, 34% of workers are considering changing jobs within the next two years.

This shift is prompting employers to move away from traditional CV-based hiring toward skills-based recruitment. France Travail reports that 74% of recruiters facing hiring difficulties have accepted candidates with less experience than originally required, and 63% have hired profiles from different training backgrounds than initially sought. This approach prioritizes transferable skills, such as project management or client relations, over specific diplomas or job titles.

To navigate these transitions, tools like competency assessments (bilan de compétences) can help individuals identify transferable skills, test new career ideas against market realities, and manage forced transitions caused by reorganization or health issues.
