CareerSource Polk CEO fired following state oversight pressure

The Polk County Commission voted 3–2 to terminate Stacy Campbell-Domineck as CEO of CareerSource Polk, ending her 20-year tenure. The commission also voted to terminate the organization’s entire board.

The dismissal follows a request from state oversight officials appointed by Governor Ron DeSantis. CareerSource Florida CEO Adrienne Johnston and FloridaCommerce Secretary J. Alex Kelly sent a letter to commissioners alleging mismanagement under Campbell-Domineck’s leadership. Specific allegations included violations of a performance improvement plan, the abrupt termination of contracts with CDL providers, and barring children from the facility.

The state officials also criticized a fundraiser held by Campbell-Domineck, describing it as being “laden with, and many of the awards were based on, diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.” The letter characterized these actions as “woke ideologies.” The correspondence noted that the Governor has the authority to remove commissioners if they fail to act on the request to fire the CEO.
