Carefree brand faces lawsuit over alleged PFOA presence

Carefree, a popular feminine hygiene brand owned by Essity, is facing a lawsuit in California over allegations that its panty liners contain perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA). PFOA is a synthetic substance belonging to the PFAS group, often referred to as ‘forever chemicals’ due to their ability to persist in the human body and the environment.

The lawsuit claims that exposure to these chemicals has been linked to various health issues, including liver disease and chronic yeast infections. While scientific research and agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have warned about the potential risks of long-term PFOA exposure, the specific claims regarding the safety of Carefree products have not yet been confirmed in court.

In response to the controversy, some consumers are reportedly shifting toward organic and toxin-free alternatives, such as products from the brand LOLA, to avoid potential hormone-disrupting chemicals.
