Caretta caretta sea turtle Chili in critical condition after ingesting plastic

A critically ill Caretta caretta sea turtle, named ‘Chili’, has recently expelled pieces of plastic it had previously ingested. The turtle was originally discovered in the port of Volos and was transferred in August to the ARCHELON Sea Turtle Rescue Centre in Glyfada.

Medical teams are closely monitoring the turtle’s condition, as it is also exhibiting neurological symptoms. Experts at ARCHELON are investigating whether these neurological issues are linked to toxic substances potentially associated with the ingested plastic, though a causal connection has not yet been confirmed. The rescue team stated they are doing everything possible to support the turtle’s recovery.
