Caretta caretta sea turtle released in Punta Secca, Sicily

A Caretta caretta sea turtle, named Adelina, has been released back into the Mediterranean Sea at Punta Secca in Santa Croce Camerina.

The turtle was originally rescued in September by personnel from the Catania Maritime Directorate during routine sea patrols after being found in distress. Following her rescue, Adelina was transferred to the C.Re.Ta.M. (National Reference Center for the welfare, monitoring, and diagnostics of marine turtle diseases) at the Sicilian Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute for medical treatment and monitoring.

The release took place during the ‘Mercato alla Voce’ event, which celebrates the maritime traditions and culture of the Iblean territory. The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the Pozzallo Port Authority, Captain Amleto Piccinno, staff from the Zooprophylactic Institute, local authorities, and students from schools in Santa Croce Camerina.
