Carey Mulligan Bans Background Music at Home, Says Husband Marcus Mumford
On the July 27 episode of the SmartLess podcast, Mumford & Sons frontman Marcus Mumford explained that his wife, actress Carey Mulligan, does not allow music to be played in their home. He said music distracts him, causing him to stop talking and lean in to listen, which interrupts family conversation. As a result the couple has a household rule that background music is not played.
Mumford also mentioned that the rule applies to their three children – Evelyn Grace (10), Wilfred (8) and a two‑year‑old daughter – and that they aim to raise them without using the word “hate.” The pair first met as children at a church Bible camp, reconnected years later, and married in 2012.
