Cargo ship fire at Amaliapoli shipyard

A large fire broke out on a Greek-flagged cargo ship docked at a private shipyard in Loutraki, Amaliapoli, on Wednesday afternoon. The fire originated in the ship's accommodation area while the vessel was empty of cargo for scheduled maintenance.

Emergency response teams, including the Greek Fire Service, the Hellenic Coast Guard, and local EMAC units from Larissa, were deployed to the scene. Tugs 'PANTHIR' and 'ACHILLEAS' also assisted in the operation. The fire was brought under control and extinguished by the afternoon.

No injuries were reported among the seven-member crew or shipyard personnel. Authorities confirmed there was no marine pollution or water ingress, though the vessel sustained extensive material damage. The Amaliapoli Port Authority has prohibited the ship from sailing until a surveyor provides certification regarding its class and seaworthiness. A preliminary investigation into the maritime accident is underway.
