Cargo transporters protest FGR abuses in Morelia

Federal cargo transporters held a protest in Morelia, Michoacán, to denounce alleged abuses and extortion by elements of the Fiscalía General de la República (FGR). A caravan of drivers traveled from Lázaro Cárdenas to the FGR facilities to demand an end to corruption during highway inspections.

Drivers reported that agents use checkpoints, particularly in the Taretan municipality, to commit irregularities. They also highlighted excessive costs associated with FGR-requested tow trucks, which reportedly charge between 80,000 and 120,000 pesos per event, creating a significant economic burden for the sector. While transporters claim to maintain operational coordination with the State Prosecutor's Office (FGE), the National Guard (GN), and the Civil Guard (GC), they stated that FGR representatives have failed to participate in security working groups.
