Caribbean leaders urged to adopt AI for development and education

Experts are calling for Caribbean leaders and educators to proactively adopt artificial intelligence to drive regional development and prepare the youth for a changing technological landscape.

AI specialist Tim Teemal urged governments to utilize AI to enhance public safety, streamline services, and revolutionize education. He highlighted the development of low-cost, open-source tools, such as a multilingual voice-to-form platform for anonymous crime reporting and specialized AI tutoring platforms tailored to regional curricula. These tools are designed to support neurodivergent students and provide real-time data for local authorities.

In Jamaica, Ryan Roper, CEO of CEAL Green Energy Limited, emphasized that young people must develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate an AI-driven world. Speaking at the Jamaica Association of Education Officers’ Annual General Meeting, Roper argued that academic qualifications alone are insufficient, noting that the ability to solve complex, multidisciplinary problems is essential for addressing regional challenges.
