Travelers snorkeling in the Caribbean may encounter several stinging marine organisms. The box jellyfish can deliver a painful sting that may cause swelling and cardiovascular issues. The Portuguese man o’ war, often mistaken for a jellyfish, has tentacles up to 30 feet that cause blisters and muscle spasms.
