CARICOM ministers address Caribbean Mathematics education reform

Caribbean education ministers and stakeholders are refocusing on Mathematics performance during the 52nd Meeting of the CARICOM Council for Human and Social Development (COHSOD) on Education in Guyana. The regional initiative aims to address widespread difficulties in Mathematics across several Caribbean territories.

Education officials, including representatives from the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), are advocating for a shift away from an examination-driven approach. The goal is to move beyond rote memorization and formula reproduction toward fostering mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and the ability to apply concepts to practical, real-world situations in modern economies.
