CARICOM responds to United Kingdom apology regarding transatlantic trafficking

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) has issued a response to remarks made by United Kingdom Prime Minister Andy Burnham regarding Britain’s historical role in transatlantic trafficking.

CARICOM Chair and Saint Lucian Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre stated that while the apology is an “essential first step,” an apology without repair remains incomplete. The organization emphasized the necessity of reparatory justice in addressing the legacy of the transatlantic slave trade.
