Carina Farías elected to lead Entre Ríos legislative workers union

Carina Farías has been elected as the new General Secretary of the Asociación del Personal Legislativo (APL) in Entre Ríos, Argentina. Leading the Lista Celeste y Blanca, Farías secured between 116 and 116 votes, defeating the Lista Unidad Legislativa, which was headed by María Florencia Busti and received 83 to 85 votes.

Farías becomes the first woman to lead the union in its more than 30-year history. She described the victory as a “change of era” and a significant challenge. Her administration will serve a four-year term with a focus on addressing wage losses caused by inflation, promoting new permanent staff entries within the legislature, and improving labor rights.

Additional goals for the new leadership include strengthening the union's participation in multisectoral efforts, introducing new social benefits for members, and encouraging generational renewal by increasing communication and involvement among younger workers.
