Carinthia promotes healthy childcare and organic food initiatives
In Carinthia, Austria, regional initiatives are focusing on health promotion and sustainable food systems. The “Healthy Childcare” initiative has expanded to 120 facilities, aiming to integrate health awareness, nutrition, movement, and mental well-being into daily routines. Brückl Kindergarten, led by Eva Wagner, has implemented the “Rundum fit” project, which focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, and nature exploration.
Simultaneously, the state and BIO AUSTRIA are working to increase the use of organic foods in large-scale communal catering while reducing food waste. Environmental Councilor Marika Lagger-Pöllinger emphasized the importance of soil health for food security, particularly in the face of drought and heavy rainfall. The collaboration aims to support organic farming and environmental sustainability through conscious purchasing and improved waste management in public kitchens.
