Carinthia promotes healthy nutrition and food waste reduction

The state of Carinthia is advancing regional initiatives focused on healthy nutrition and the reduction of food waste.

Lebenswelt St. Antonius, a facility of the Stiftung Liebenau in Spittal an der Drau, has been awarded the 67th ‘Healthy Kitchen’ seal. The facility, which supports 31 adults with disabilities, integrates residents into the daily culinary process. Residents participate in planning, preparing, and cooking menus according to healthy nutrition criteria for themselves and the staff.

In a broader effort to combat food waste, Carinthia is promoting food appreciation and resource conservation. Regional authorities are supporting businesses and large-scale communal kitchens to identify and implement savings potential. This includes participation in projects like the ‘Kitchen of the Future Challenge’ and support for various local institutions, funded by both federal and state resources.
