Carioca bean prices in Brazil rise 96.8% in 2026

The average price of carioca beans in Brazil rose by 96.8% between January and July 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. According to a survey by VR based on consumer invoices, the average price increased from R$ 8.46 to R$ 16.64.

Price fluctuations were highly concentrated at the beginning of the year. In January 2026, the average price for carioca beans peaked at R$ 27.50, up from R$ 8.86 in December 2025, before dropping to R$ 9.59 in February. When comparing July 2025 to July 2026, the price for a 1kg package rose 54.5%, from R$ 8.24 to R$ 12.73.

Price movements varied significantly across different bean varieties. While carioca beans saw a massive spike, black beans rose by 18.1% (from R$ 7.91 to R$ 9.34), and white beans increased by 6.8%. Conversely, some varieties became cheaper: jalo beans fell by 28.1%, red beans decreased by 17.6%, and rosinha beans saw the largest decline at 41%.
