Cariri region faces high heat and low humidity in Ceará
The Cariri region and south-central Ceará are experiencing high temperatures and low humidity levels during October. According to the Ceará Foundation for Meteorology and Water Resources (Funceme), afternoon temperatures are reaching up to 38 °C, while relative humidity levels are dropping to between 20% and 30%.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued alerts for the state, with certain areas under orange or yellow warnings due to the dry air. This period coincides with the ‘B-R-O Bró’ season, the hottest time of the year in Ceará. Meteorologists suggest that El Niño conditions may be contributing to these heatwaves, particularly in the sertão and south-central regions.
To mitigate health risks, authorities recommend increasing fluid intake, avoiding sun exposure during peak hours, and using humidifiers or wet towels in indoor environments to combat respiratory irritation and dehydration.
