Caritas Brescia launches housing-and‑jobs program for former inmates

The Diocese of Brescia’s Caritas, together with chaplains of the Nerio Fischione and Verziano prisons and the volunteer group Vol. Ca, has opened the "Via dei Bucaneve, 25 – La libertà trova casa" initiative. Financed through the 8 × 1000 church tax, the programme seeks to secure housing and employment for people leaving prison, a response to severe overcrowding that exceeds 200 % capacity in some Lombardy facilities.

Parishes are being asked to make apartments available; rent will be paid by the former inmates from the jobs obtained through the project. A dedicated professional will coordinate the search for housing and work, linking ex‑prisoners with local businesses and leveraging Caritas and volunteer resources to support full social reintegration.
