Caritas launches annual collection across Argentina to aid winter‑time poverty

Caritas began its annual collection in the city of Tunuyán, Mendoza Province, with volunteers moving door‑to‑door throughout the week and ending on Saturday. The operation uses wooden donation boxes secured with locks and records each pickup on a register. Over 30 volunteers are covering neighborhoods such as Villa Tunuyán, Virgen del Rosario, Los Pircas and La Sidrera, focusing on gathering blankets, warm clothing and food as demand rises during the winter months.

The nationwide campaign continues on 6‑7 June, marking 70 years of Caritas Argentina’s work. The collection is open in parishes and community centres across the country, and donations can also be made electronically year‑round. Archbishop Gustavo Carrara, president of Caritas Argentina, said the funds will support food security, early‑childhood education, dignified work, housing improvement and neighbourhood integration programmes, reinforcing the organization’s long‑term goal of helping people regain dignity and employment opportunities.
