Venezuelan earthquake relief surges as NGOs, officials deliver aid

Caritas Venezuela says it has assisted more than 72,000 people affected by the June 24 double earthquake, delivering over 16,000 tonnes of food, water, hygiene kits and other supplies to the five hardest‑hit states (La Guaira, Distrito Capital, Carabobo, Falcón and Miranda). The organization also launched the SAMAN (System of Alert, Monitoring and Attention in Nutrition and Health) to continuously assess the nutritional status of children in shelters and provide balanced meals.

Tarek William Saab, head of the Gran Misión Viva Venezuela, led a visit to the José Ávalos transitional camp, distributing clothing, food and medicine and announcing that the government has already handed out hundreds of homes and plans to allocate thousands more to those displaced.

The Inter‑American Commission on Human Rights (CIDH) called for transparent assistance, citing official figures of at least 5,546 deaths, 16,740 injured, 6,462 rescued and 128,324 families receiving aid, while warning that many victims remain unaccounted for. UNICEF estimates that around 680,000 children were affected.

Health Minister Carlos Alvarado inspected hospitals and temporary camps in Caracas and La Guaira, confirming the provision of medical care, food, psychological support and adequate living conditions. The Ministry of Health’s Fundeeh reported 70 % progress on rehabilitation work at the Centro de Salud Dr. José León Tapia in Barinas and found no structural damage in several inspected hospitals.
