Carl Thomson jailed for eight years for sexual assault
Carl Thomson, 55, has been sentenced to eight years in prison at Exeter Crown Court after being found guilty of rape, sexual assault by penetration, and sexual assault. The offences occurred in April 2023 after Thomson met the victim online. The court heard that Thomson attacked the woman in her own home, an act the judge noted caused significant psychological harm. Thomson, who was arrested at Bristol Airport, maintained that the contact was consensual during police interviews. He must also sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.
In a separate case, Mark Talling, 62, was sentenced at Truro Crown Court to eight years and six months in prison for two counts of rape following a night out in Cornwall. The victim reported that the offences caused severe psychological trauma, including depression and suicidal thoughts. Although Talling denied the allegations, he received the custodial sentence.
