Carla Cerati exhibition opens at Palazzo Reale in Milan

Palazzo Reale in Milan is hosting an anthology exhibition titled ‘Plurale femminile. Fotografia e scrittura, 1926-2026’ to honor the centenary of photographer Carla Cerati. The exhibition runs from September 26, 2026, to January 10, 2027.

The showcase features over 200 photographic works, along with books, archival documents, and videos. It explores the dual nature of Cerati’s career: her role as a photographer documenting Italian social and political shifts, and her work as a writer focusing on personal memory and autobiography.

Cerati’s photography captured significant historical moments in Italy, including the post-war reconstruction, the economic boom, and the social protests of the 1960s and 1970s. The exhibition also highlights her collaboration with Gianni Berengo Gardin on the book ‘Morire in classe’, which was produced within the context of the work of Franco Basaglia and Franca Ongaro Basaglia.
