Carla Madeira releases new novel ‘Quando’

Brazilian author Carla Madeira has released her fourth novel, titled ‘Quando’, published by Record. The story follows the character Viridiana, who in 2006 awaits the return of her son, Tito, after having reported him to the police twenty years earlier following a tragic event.

The novel explores themes of maternity, guilt, homophobia, and violence through the lens of a family spanning two decades. Madeira, one of Brazil’s most widely read fiction authors, noted that the writing process served as a vital tool for navigating personal grief following the loss of her psychoanalyst, her mother, and a close friend.
