Carla Zambelli hires new legal team to contest STF convictions

Lawyer Fábio Pagnozzi has resigned from representing former federal deputy Carla Zambelli and her husband, Antônio Aginaldo de Oliveira. Pagnozzi stated he had been working without fees based on an agreement that Zambelli would support his candidacy for federal deputy in São Paulo. However, Zambelli shifted her support to her mother, Rita Zambelli, who is also running for the same position.

In response to the resignation, Zambelli has hired Brazilian lawyer Eduardo Maurício to join Italian attorney Pieremilio Sammarco. The new legal team aims to contest two convictions imposed by the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and oppose a second extradition request from Brazil to Italy.

Maurício has characterized the legal proceedings as “political persecution,” alleging that the convictions violated due process and the right to a fair defense. The defense plans to challenge the impartiality of STF ministers Alexandre de Moraes and Gilmar Mendes, arguing that Zambelli would not receive a fair trial if extradited to Brazil.
