Carlisle Castle Hotel undergoes revival in Newtown

The historic Carlisle Castle Hotel in Newtown is set to reopen following a renovation led by the hospitality team behind Redfern’s Bat & Ball Hotel. The group, which includes Rachael Paul, Dan McBride, Dynn Szmulewicz, Zac Godbolt, and culinary director Cameron Votano, spent over a year working to secure the 150-year-old establishment.

The renovation focused on restoring the venue’s heritage features, such as Federation woodwork, pressed tin ceilings, and a 1920s marble bar, while incorporating 1970s nostalgia. The updated space replaces former gambling facilities with new amenities, including two pool tables and a wine-delivery window. The venue will offer a variety of programs, including jazz nights, Sunday roasts, and themed food and drink specials.
