Carlo Acutis: Church marks first anniversary of canonization

The Catholic Church and millions of faithful are marking the first anniversary of the canonization of Carlo Acutis, who was declared a saint on September 7, 2025, by Pope Leo XIV. The ceremony, which was delayed following the death of Pope Francis, has led to a global increase in projects, schools, and chapels bearing his name.

In Assisi, a special Mass will be held at the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore-Sanctuary of the Spogliazione, where Acutis's tomb is located. The event will be presided over by Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti and broadcast via Maria Vision and other digital platforms.

Acutis, a millennial known for his interest in computers and his description of the Eucharist as his “highway to heaven,” died of leukemia in 2006 at age 15. His mother, Antonia Salzano, reports that the family continues to receive frequent testimonies of conversions and healings attributed to his intercession. One recognized miracle involved a university student in Florence who recovered from an irreversible coma following a bicycle accident.
