Carlo Ancelotti Returns to Brazil to Launch 2030 World Cup Revamp
Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti arrived back in Rio de Janeiro on 28 July 2026 after Brazil’s elimination from the 2026 World Cup. He met with the CBF’s technical department and senior officials, including coordinator Rodrigo Caetano, to start a new cycle aimed at the 2030 World Cup.
Ancelotti, whose contract was renewed in May to run through 2030, said the team will “initiate the building of a new side, observing and testing young players, but without discarding the athletes who were at the World Cup.” The plan includes two Australia‑away friendlies on 25 September in Townsville and 29 September in Brisbane, a possible third friendly later in the FIFA window, South American qualifying matches beginning in the second half of 2027, and the Copa América in 2028, likely staged in the United States.
Former star Romário publicly criticised the decision to keep Ancelotti, adding a dissenting voice to the broader discussion of Brazil’s future.
