Brazil defeats India 4-0 in historic Kolkata friendly
Brazil concluded an international tour with a 4-0 victory over India in Kolkata, marking the first senior men’s football meeting between the two nations. Goals were scored by Estêvão and Pedro in the first half, followed by two goals from Samuel Lino in the second half. The match, held at Salt Lake Stadium, saw Brazil dominate possession and shots despite an organized Indian defense.
Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti used the tour, which included two previous matches against Australia (a 1-1 draw and a 4-2 win), to test a wide range of players. Out of the 26-man squad, nine players made their international debuts, including Matheuzinho, Arthur Dias, and Breno Bidon. Ancelotti expressed satisfaction with the progress of these new faces, noting that the period provided a clearer vision for future squad selections.
While Brazil secured a dominant win, Ancelotti noted that some players still need to improve and highlighted the challenges faced by those with limited club playing time. India’s head coach, Khalid Jamil, acknowledged the massive gap in quality between the teams but described the match as a vital learning experience for his squad.
