Carlo Azeglio Ciampi commemorated by Scuola Normale Superiore

The Scuola Normale Superiore and the Ciampi Institute are marking the tenth anniversary of the passing of Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, the former President of the Italian Republic. Alessandro Schiesaro, Director of the Scuola Normale and President of the Ciampi Institute, described Ciampi as a “compass” for navigating the present and future, emphasizing his commitment to democracy, human dignity, and European integration.

To commemorate his legacy, a new book titled ‘Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, patriottismo e libertà’ (Carlo Azeglio Ciampi, patriotism and freedom) will be published by Edizioni della Normale. Written by economist Domenico Marchetta, who served as Ciampi’s advisor from 1996 to 2016, the volume explores Ciampi’s civil and institutional leadership. The book features contributions and testimonies from notable figures, including Mario Draghi, Maurizio Viroli, Salvatore Settis, Franco Gallo, Marzio Breda, and Walter Veltroni.

The publication aims to reconstruct Ciampi’s ‘civil pedagogy,’ tracing his development from a student at the Scuola Normale to a statesman who championed republican patriotism and constitutional values.
