Carlo Knight's Library Donation Opens at Certosa di San Giacomo, Capri
The Biblioteca C. Knight was inaugurated in the Chiostro Grande of the Certosa di San Giacomo on Capri. The library occupies former teaching rooms next to the island’s Archaeological Museum and is open to the public free of charge from 10:00 to 18:00.
The collection, donated by the late scholar Carlo Knight (who died on 20 June 2024), consists of about 6,600 volumes and an extensive documentary archive, arranged on 211 metres of shelving. The books, previously stored in Capri (≈5,000) and Naples (≈1,700), cover archaeology, history, art and literature of the region. Knight’s children, Eugénie Hélène Knight and Eric Raimondo Knight, fulfilled their father’s wish by gifting the entire library. The donation forms part of a larger public library project being built at the Certosa, intended to serve scholars and the local community.
